“Pilate addressed them a third time, “What evil has this man done?
I found him guilty of not capital crime. Therefore, I shall have him flogged and then release him”
With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion and their voices prevailed.
The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted.” Luke 23:22-24
One day as I sat in m office, the receptionist came to the door and said, “There is a black man at the door!”
I said, “So?” She said “There’s a black man at the door!” I finally realized she was afraid. I went to the door and settled business with the man.
When I returned to my office, she said, “Are you alright? What happened?”
We sat down and had a long talk. She shared with the source of her fears and response to the man. I, in turn, pointed out that we cannot condemn a whole race of people because of what one person or persons did. This is prejudice. Judging others based on their color, culture, religion, etc. calls for repentance. The color of our skin is a gift from God and should be cherished.
No one should stand before us in judgement.
God in your mercy, show us how racism hurts and oppresses all and is below our human dignity.
