Commission on the Status of Women

Posted on March 20, 2024March 23, 2024
Commission on the Status of Women
Sister Maryann Agnes Mueller, CSSF, attended the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment. This year 14,000 women, representing almost every country in the world, registered for the two-week meeting held at the United Nations in New York.
The priority theme of the meeting was “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.” Sister was invited to the meeting with nine other Franciscans and Franciscan hearted people by Franciscans International, which holds an office at the United Nations in both New York and Geneva.
Sister was struck and encouraged by the vast majority of younger women attending the commission who were both knowledgeable and passionate about their particular issue.

Angela, you were moved by the plight of neglected children, women, the sick, the homeless, the aged, the illiterate, immigrants, victims of war, and all who did not know the love and mercy of God, Pray for these people in our world today.
