The holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas are expected to be blessed and joyful, but oftentimes they are stressful and burdensome, especially to senior citizens, the unemployed, the sick and the lonely. The Kingstree community and beyond have responded generously to the Felician Center to give as many people as possible some holiday assistance. Saint Michael Catholic Church, Garden City, Knights of Columbus Assembly 11991 donated 330 lbs. of food, over 900 pairs of new socks and gave a monetary donation. Crothall Healthcare/Compass One Healthcare and MUSC Black River participated in the Socktober Campaign and donated about 300 pairs of new socks for the Felician Center. Citadel Brands donated 7 cases of hoodies and sweatshirts for the Clothing Closet. On Sunday, November 5, 2023, seven adult leaders and 42 teenagers from the Kingstree Community Youth group participated in the annual Food Scavenger Hunt for the fruition center. Going door to door, the group collected over 1900 food items that were delivered to the Felician Center. Sister Johnna addressed the group that helped to sort the items for bagging by other volunteers for the Thanksgiving Giveaway. Two hundred (200) bags were distributed before Thanksgiving for people in need. Reverend Tom, pastor of Kingstree United Methodist Church, and Honorable Ernie Jarret, Felician Center Board Member, helped to sort the food collection. Local churches have also contributed monetary donations for holiday assistance to people who need it the most.
